Games of Chitral
چترال
Chitral, in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, shares the northern equestrian tradition with Gilgit-Baltistan and is one of the two districts whose teams meet at the Shandur polo tournament each July, on the pass that separates them. Freestyle polo here is a district game with local grounds, local teams and rules maintained by custom, and buzkashi is played in parts of the valley system in the colder months. Chitral's children's and household games overlap with those of the wider north while carrying Khowar names, recorded per game where a source confirms them. This page collects every game on this site with a documented presence in Chitral and links to entries where equipment, ground, player count and season are cited individually. English-language documentation for Chitral is dominated by annual festival coverage, so entries here stay in research until their rules and their sources are both confirmed, and first-hand observations from named contributors carry real weight here.
