Games of the Northern Mountains
شمالی علاقوں کے کھیل
The games of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral are shaped by altitude, distance and horses. Freestyle polo is played on long stone-walled grounds with no umpire and few stoppages, in a form that predates and diverges from the international game; buzkashi is played on winter fields; and the Shandur tournament each July, on a pass at roughly 3,700 metres between the two districts, is the best-known fixture in the northern calendar. This collection groups every entry on this site documented in those two regions, so the northern tradition can be read as a set rather than as scattered curiosities. It is also the part of the collection where English-language sources are thinnest and where careless writing does the most damage, because a single invented detail about a valley's rules can be repeated indefinitely. Membership is filtered on region. Every published claim here is tied to a numbered source, and entries without sources remain in research.
